This product was designed for Wüsthof as part of an OEM line of accessories manufactured by Smith’s Abrasives. The key innovation was a v-shaped blade configuration that produced an even thickness across the width of the deck. This required pivoting both infeed and outfeed decks via a transversely mounted adjustment knob. We devised a simple mechanism that actuated both decks via a pair of interlocking spiral tracks, which eliminated the expense and maintenance of a geared system. The resulting mechanism was both dishwasher safe and maintenance-free, did not create a food trap, and did not require tight tolerances in manufacturing.

The partnership died on the vine, but it was produced and briefly sold under the Kitchen IQ brand. Its premium construction in cast aluminum, with high-quality blades made in Solingen put it at a premium price. Sadly, the Kitchen IQ brand could not support this price point, and the product was discontinued.
